A Day In the Life…

Written by Maxine Bloomer

The start of a new series of blogs about the people in our business – find out about how we work and what makes us tick, and learn more about the talent behind Bowles & Wyer.

A day in the life of… James Christopher Smith.

What’s your job role at Bowles & Wyer?

My role at B&W is Assistant Landscape Designer

How long have you been working here?

As of the 30th September, I have been working at B&W for 209 days, 10 hours and 43 minutes! In simpler terms, 7 months!

What time did you get up this morning?

Unfortunately, I wake up at 05:30

What did you have for breakfast?

Usually it’s Cheerio’s, banana, apple juice and a multi-vitamin, because you know, health…although that’s a bit ironic if you keep reading

What was the first thing you did when you got to the office this morning?

I usually get into the office at about 07:30, to avoid rush hour traffic! So, I find a decent podcast to listen to before starting work!

What does your work day typically consist of?

My typical day consists of designing gardens, drawing up construction details and planting plans. As well as this, I am also in constant contact with clients to keep them updated on the progress of their project. As well as working alongside my colleagues in the office, I also work with suppliers, interior designers and architects!

What’s your favourite part of your job?

Being creative and designing dream gardens for clients! It’s why I wanted a career as a landscape designer.

What’s your least favourite element of your job?

I think it would have to be the commute, although it is my fault for living in Northampton!

What’s your favourite snack in the office?

As everyone in the office knows by now, there isn’t really a snack that I don’t like. But if I had to choose a favourite, I think it would have to be your standard KitKat. Unless my parents are reading this… then it’s fruit!

How do you spend a typical evening after work?

After hopefully an “easy” commute home, I usually start the evening off with dinner followed by a run (mainly to burn off any snacks I’ve had during the day). I then spend the rest of the evening listening to my vinyl collection and playing Football Manager and/or Fifa!
